Updated 21 October 2026. Dates come from the organizers or the official tourism office.
Short answer: Norway’s 2026 Christmas season starts with Jul i Vinterland in Oslo on 7 November. Bergen’s Gingerbread Town opens on 14 November and Bergen Christmas Market on 20 November. The Norsk Folkemuseum market in Oslo runs on 5–6 and 12–13 December, and Røros from 3 to 6 December.
Norway’s Christmas markets are smaller and cozier than the big German ones, and several only open on a few Advent days. So the dates matter more than usual. Here’s every market I’ve checked for 2026, with hours and prices from the organizers.

Oslo
Jul i Vinterland (Spikersuppa)
Oslo’s city-center Christmas market runs from Saturday 7 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027 in Spikersuppa, the square along Karl Johans gate. It has market stalls, a Ferris wheel and a free ice rink, which opens on Saturday 28 November at 17:00. Bring your own skates or rent a pair next to the Ferris wheel. Normal hours are Monday to Thursday 12:00 to 20:00, Friday 12:00 to 21:00, Saturday 10:00 to 21:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 20:00. For a daytime break from the markets, our guide to sledding on Korketrekkeren shows how to get up there by metro.
Holiday hours for 2026: 23 December 11:00 to 19:00, closed on Christmas Eve, 25 to 30 December 11:00 to 20:00, New Year’s Eve 11:00 to 18:00, 1 and 2 January 11:00 to 20:00, and the last day, 3 January, 11:00 to 17:00.
Norsk Folkemuseum Christmas market (Bygdøy)
The Norwegian Folk Museum holds its Christmas market on two weekends: 5 and 6 December and 12 and 13 December 2026, from 10:00 to 16:00. The museum lists over 100 market stalls, decorated old houses, folk dancing, concerts and a Santa’s farmstead for kids. Adults pay 200 kroner and children up to 17 get in free.
The museum asks visitors to come by public transport. Bus 30 runs to Bygdøy from Oslo Central Station, with extra departures during the market, and there’s a free shuttle bus from Skøyen station.
Bergen
Pepperkakebyen (Gingerbread Town)
Bergen has built a gingerbread town every Christmas since 1991, with houses baked by kindergartens, schools, companies and thousands of locals. The organizers call it the world’s largest. In 2026 it’s open from 14 November to 10 January 2027 at byROMMET, Kong Oscars gate 24–26. Children under 16 get in free on weekdays. My full guide: Bergen Gingerbread Town 2026.
Bergen Christmas Market (Festplassen)
The Christmas market on Festplassen, in the city center by the lake, runs from Friday 20 November to Tuesday 22 December 2026. Visit Bergen lists the hours as Monday to Friday 12:00 to 21:00 and weekends 10:00 to 21:00. Entry is free, and the carousels need a separate ticket.
Festival of Lights (Lysfesten)
On Saturday 14 November 2026, from 16:00, Bergen lights up for Christmas around the lake Lille Lungegårdsvann, with fireworks at about 17:00. It’s free. The same day the Gingerbread Town opens, so it’s a good weekend to visit.
Trondheim
Julemarkedet i Trondheim fills Torvet, the main square, from 3 to 21 December 2026. The market stalls are open every day from 11:00 to 19:00, and the lavvu (a Sámi-style tent) serves food until 20:00, and until 22:00 on Thursdays and Fridays.
Røros
Julemarked Røros is held every year on the second weekend of Advent in the old mining town of Røros, a World Heritage Site. In 2026 it runs from Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 December, 11:00 to 18:00 Thursday to Saturday and 11:00 to 16:00 on Sunday. The organizers say demand for places to stay is high, so book early or stay nearby. They also have a page on getting there from Trondheim. My Røros Christmas market guide has the 2026 train times, sleigh ride booking and program highlights.
How I’d plan a Norway Christmas trip
- Bergen weekend, 14–15 November: the Gingerbread Town opens and the Festival of Lights is on Saturday afternoon. Bergen Christmas Market follows on 20 November.
- Oslo, first or second weekend of December: Jul i Vinterland any day, plus the Norsk Folkemuseum market on 5–6 or 12–13 December.
- Røros and Trondheim, 3–6 December: Trondheim’s market opens on 3 December, the same day as Røros.
